Mechanical Fiber Splice

Fiber Optic Mechanical Splicing Process

Fiber Preparation: The fiber preparation process involves stripping the protective coating from the fiber, cleaning the bare fiber to ensure it is dust-free and clean, and then cutting it to the desired length using a precision tool to achieve a perpendicular and smooth end-face.

Alignment: Insert the prepared fiber into the fiber optic mechanical splice connector, which features a precise mechanism to ensure accurate alignment of the fiber ends.

Clamping: Once the fibers are correctly aligned, the connector in the mechanical splice clamps them together, forming a stable physical connection.

Index Matching: To further minimize signal loss at the connection point, some fiber mechanical splices utilize index-matching gel or adhesive to fill any air gaps, thereby reducing reflection losses and improving the efficiency of the optical signal transmission.

FAQs of Fibre Mechanical Splice

FAQs of Fibre Mechanical Splice

  • Q
How does a fiber optic mechanical splice work?
    A
They work by physically aligning the two fiber cores and holding them in place using a clamp or similar mechanism. They may also use an index-matching gel to reduce the refractive index mismatch between the air gap and the fiber core, thus minimizing signal loss.
  • Q
Is a fibre optic mechanical splice reusable?
    A
Some mechanical splices are designed to be reusable, meaning the fibers can be disconnected and reconnected multiple times. However, this depends on the specific product and how well it is maintained.
  • Q
Can I have a custom designed and sample order?
    A
We provide design service for all clients. MOQ of sample order is subject to the specific design.
  • Q
How long is your delivery time?
    A
5-10 days if the goods are in stock. 2-3 weeks if the goods are not in stock, mostly depends on quantity and production plan.
  • Q
What is your terms of payment?
    A
We accept T/T, L/C, etc, 30% Deposit and 70% before shipment. Small order is 100% of full price in advance.
